Academics and plumbing

Artist in Residence

It has been a very busy time here at Gordon House. It was our pleasure to have artist and academic Duncan Bullen stay for an intense 24 hour residency. Working within a specific set of rules, he has been exploring the minutiae of surfaces in the spaces in Gordon House and capturing them through a system of measured pencil drawings. He is a principle lecturer and is Programme Leader of Fine Art. His research encompass' drawing and printmaking as ‘being present’ and ‘making present’ exploring the value of sensory acuity, focusing on touch, breath and surface.
His research references theory about drawing and meditation practice and the reciprocity between practitioner and the world as ameliorative development.

Duncan will be returning for a longer residential stay with us in July.

The Existentialist Plumbers' Collective - PhD workshop -  Antiuniversity event
We have just had an exciting weekend hosting The Existentialist Plumbers' Collective at Gordon House. Participants were invited to,
“join our competently under-qualified staff to achieve your PhD in only one workshop session! Plumb the depths of your existential crisis, try your hand at simple subversion techniques, enjoy practical workshops in interventions into the everyday and manifesto writing. In a time of crisis the absurd makes so much sense. You will have the opportunity to discuss fascinating topics such as, can one ascend the heights of existentialism without a step-ladder, plumbing your way out of the patriarchy, installing your own parallel universe and chipping off the old block. Work collectively to research, create, edit and review your own publication and graduate with full honours. Because who needs to pay thousands of pounds a term to become an expert existentialist plumber when you can get a certificate in Plunging, hammering and Discussion and produce your ‘thesis’ as a collective in one afternoon?”
Everyday objects were and new ways to plumb the depths of our existential crisis were researched.

Congratulations to the newest graduates from TEPC!
