Alia Zapparova - Artist In Residence
From 9th -14th June we were delighted to host Alia Zapparova as artist in residence at Gordon House Margate.
Alia Zapparova is an artist and writer based in Berlin. She makes books and installations composed of photographs; her work is a search for strategies and poetics of transformation through the everyday. During her residency at Gordon House she photographed and used various methods of recording as a way of exploring the silences and absences inhabiting the house. Staying in, stepping through, looking at and listening to its rooms and spaces, she became interested in collecting and creating traces and imprints of the small, insignificant shifts in the house’s condition, such as peeling wallpaper in obscure corners. She assembled a series of visual, audio and textual notes on the nothing that happens in the non-spaces that will soon be transformed, and is interested in how this collection can reflect without revealing the non-events that do not haunt the house and our lives.
